Marine who rescued Howard Hughes Dies at 89

William Durkin, the marine who saved Howard Hughes (eccentric billionaire, )from the plane crash has died. He would have turned 90 soon.

The crash was one of the main episodes in 2004 film "The Aviator," which starred Leonardo DiCaprio as Hughes.

"There was a lot of talk over the years that he rewarded him with gazillions of dollars, which is just not true," Kimberly Durkin said. "They were friends. They cavorted with each other for many years. He never got any big payoff because he wouldn't take it. He felt you shouldn't be paid off for doing what was right."

Many illegal immigration stay home this week because of rumors of random arrests. The absences caused the rumors to build, as some thought their missing friends and co-workers had been arrested. Construction and agriculture were among the industries most affected.

Scary Story....

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering the 10-year-old daughter of his neighbor and planning to eat her body.

"Regarding a potential motive, this appears to have been part of a plan to kidnap a person, rape them, torture them, kill them, cut off their head, drain the body of blood, rape the corpse, eat the corpse, then dispose of the organs and bones," Purcell Police Chief David Tompkins told a news conference.

Think Secret - As Apple retools new video iPod, release rolls back: "The roll-out of Apple's forthcoming video iPod has been delayed substantially after the company encountered problems with the display and touch-screen interface, Think Secret has learned. Moussaoui Circus is being drag for too long...

Zacarias Moussaoui, the only terrorist being prosecuted for 9/11 attacks, proudly reaffirmed his involvement in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist plot yesterday and said his only regret was that more Americans didn't die.

Taking the stand, he said that the " 11 survivors and family members who testified against him were "disgusting," that the testimony of one man who crawled out of his burning Pentagon office was "pathetic" and that executed Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh was "the greatest American."

I think that court has more than enough evidence already to prosecute the moron to the full extend.

Google buys new search technology

Google has outbid Yahoo and Microsoft in acquiring new search technology that offers instant answers to queries without the need to go to another website.
The technology was developed at the University of New South Wales in Australia.

P.S. I don't think that many website owners will like this technology much. I've already see some potential copyright infringment lawsuit against google.

Typical French Government Move - Retreat!

After weeks of protests and strikes, President Jacques Chirac announced plans Monday to "replace" a law that would have made it easier for companies to fire workers under age 26.

The deal represents a defeat for Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin, who had insisted on the law as a means of reducing high unemployment rates among young people.

Split over amnesty for illegal immigrants

Should 12 million illegal immigrants stay in the US? President George W. Bush and White House say no. The administration “firmly opposes amnesty, because rewarding those who break the law would compromise the rule of law, encourage more illegal entrants and increase pressure on the border”.
On the other hand, supporters of allowing legalisation for current illegal immigrants point out that the numbers have grown consistently since 1980 and are driven by US labour demands rather than the prospect of legal status in the US.

Is Paypal Secure enough?

AuctionBytes reported on Friday a vulnerability on the PayPal website that allowed anyone to find out if an email address was attached to a PayPal account, and if so, revealed the account holder's full name. Several hours after AuctionBytes contacted PayPal about the security issue the page raised, PayPal fixed it, calling it "a bug." Anyone who entered "https://www.paypal.com/affil/pal=" in the address bar of their browser could enter an email address at the end of the URL and get a page displaying the account holder's name.
Many users not sure that PayPal sufficiently protects their identities and their accounts or is pro-active in defending against security breaches.

Good Extra Cash for students ;)

A group of sophomores at Harvard University led by Mark Zuckerberg have created a student social networking web site www.facebook.com only 2 years ago. The site became the 7th most trafficked site on the Internet and generates 5.5 billion page views a month!

Apparently, the site is for sale. $750,000 bid was turned down already. Asking price - 2 billion dollars!

P.S. Have I told you that I run a social networking site, www.nycwave.com. Any bids? :)
